Why it Matters

Island nations such as Saint Vincent and the Grenadines are particularly susceptible to the effects of climate change, feeling them earlier and more acutely than most. As a responsible brand, we approach sustainability holistically, mindful that we are part of nature and not separate from it.

We commit to responsibly sourcing low impact fabrics with particular attention to provenance and trusted third-party certifications. Each fabric is chosen for its natural beauty, quality, and ecological and social benefits.

OUR SUSTAINABLE FABRICS

Organic Cotton

Our Turkish Aegean cotton fabrics are certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS). This means that no pesticides have been used to grow the cotton plant, process the fibres, or weave the fabric. From non-genetically modified seeds to the finished fabric, an environmentally responsible process is used.

GOTS also ensures ethical labour conditions throughout the supply chain, including no child labour, fair pay, safe working conditions, and that labour is taken freely.

Responsible water consumption is monitored throughout growing and production, reducing water stress in these regions. Organic cotton uses around 90% less water than conventional cotton.

At the end of life, our organic cotton is biodegradable without any harmful residues going back into the earth.

OUR SUSTAINABLE FABRICS

Organic Bamboo

Our 100% organic bamboo is a sustainable and vegan alternative to traditional silk. It grows well without the need for fertilisers and pesticides, uses 0.005% of the water needed for the equivalent cotton fabric, and is biodegradable. It is sourced from sustainably managed bamboo forests in China which are certified by the Forest Stewardship Council.

The fabric is manufactured using a closed-loop system and certified Oeko-Tex Standard 100 meaning that the processing of the fibres into fabric has been tested for 100 regulated and non-regulated chemicals which may be harmful to human health.

Our lime bamboo is dyed by a world leading, family owned partner in the UK who comply with Oeko-Tex and EU Ecolabel standards, and are ISO 14001 certified, demonstrating their commitment to the highest environmental standards.

OUR SUSTAINABLE FABRICS

Linen

Linen is a natural fibre made from the stem of the flax plant, which is strong, absorbent, hypoallergenic and cool in hot climates. A linen t-shirt takes around 0.25% of the water needed to make its equivalent in cotton.

Flax can grow easily in poor quality soil without fertilisers or pesticides, needing only rainwater. The plant also acts as a ‘carbon sink’, capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere and into the soil.

Our linen is deadstock, meaning it is unwanted fabric from mills or brands. Often these textiles are burned or discarded in landfill, which is harmful for the environment and wasteful. By using deadstock we divert this waste while creating unique pieces in small quantities, in line with our slow fashion ethos.

OUR SUSTAINABLE FABRICS

Hemp

Hemp is similar to linen in its sustainable properties. It is a strong and resilient plant, grows quickly using a third of the water needed for conventional cotton, and does not require the use of fertilisers or pesticides. This means growing hemp can be done in more water scarce areas and the associated waterways remain much cleaner.

Hemp is known as a regenerative crop, maintaining and improving soil quality by replenishing around 70% of the soil nutrients it uses. Like linen, it also acts as a ‘carbon sink’ and holds carbon dioxide in the soil away from the atmosphere.

OUR PRODUCTION CENTRE

Manufacturing

Our newly refurbished Production Centre is modern and well equipped, offering our team a safe and healthy working environment. We continue to invest in new machinery and learning how to maintain it, so we can continue to become a self-sufficient and vertically integrated business.

We employ rainwater harvesting coupled with high grade water filtration pumps to meet the water needs of our buildings. We aim to be fully solar powered by 2024.

Design Process

We thoughtfully design our collections with a slow fashion mindset, producing high quality, unique pieces which will become wardrobe staples you can enjoy for years to come. Each piece is produced in limited quantities so there is no waste.

Our Packaging

Our packaging is made from FSC certified recycled paper, printed with water and soy based inks and is acid free. All our paper packaging is fully kerb side recyclable or compostable at home. Outer mailers are fully recyclable.
